I agree that something has to be done to close the gap between the CEO's and regular Joes specifically and between the rich and poor specifically.

My idea, which is not my own because I heard it somewhere but don't remember where, is to limit a CEO's pay to a multiple of the lowest paid employee at the company. For example, if the lowest paid employee makes $10/hour, the highest paid couldn't make more than $100 per hour. Even if that rate were twenty times higher, it would be less than the gap now. And when the CEO things he or she deserves a raise, the people that made it possible that that CEO succeeded would also get a raise. Bonuses, too, would have to be limited, and maybe even shared with the average Joe.

I know this is likely not possible in a generally capitalistic economy, but it would be a great thing for businesses to do on their own, an act of corporate responsibility, that would earn more for share holders but provide a better life for the people who work there.
